Make was appointed in 2016 to redevelop a prime location in Bratislava as a best-in-class workplace scheme and set a new benchmark for offices in Slovakia. Apollo Nivy is now IBM’s new Central European Headquarters.
Designed to maximise long-term flexibility, wellbeing and building performance, our design comprises 87,000m² of workspace along with outdoor courtyards and high-level terraces. Our strong, simple concept includes large-format floorplates looping around a central publicly accessible courtyard at the heart of the scheme.
An animated entrance lobby, along with retail units, cafés and restaurants, active travel facilities, and a yoga studio, activate the ground plane, encouraging interaction and engagement with the wider community. The mix of uses, widened pedestrian routes and landscaped courtyard create a new destination outside the city centre that both tenants and the public can enjoy.
We reused some basement structures to reduce embodied carbon, while large triple-glazed windows combined with external automated blinds control solar gains and ensure user comfort throughout Slovakia’s extreme temperatures. We employed modular, local construction for the facade system, resulting in a cost-effective yet premium product. Our design delivers flexible, future-proofed, thoughtful office and community space that creates a new focal point for Bratislava.
