Hong Kong’s Kai Tak International Airport, which closed in 1998, is under redevelopment as a vibrant waterfront destination. We’ve designed facades for six 31-storey towers and six private villas at Pano Harbour, a new luxury residential scheme on the legendary Kai Tak runway. Our design unifies the buildings with a single, distinctive profile and creates a beautiful sanctuary for residents in this busy part of the city.
Inspired by the development’s harbour-side location, we embraced elegant carved stone for the development’s podium and fluted metal for the cladding. Strong, textural lines define the entrances to Pano Harbour’s ground-floor retail units, podium-level clubhouse, and upper-level luxury apartments and villas, which together provide 582 homes. The fluidity of the fluting strengthens the development’s connection with the waterside and creates a striking scallop feature that changes across the day through sunlight and shadow.
Expansive windows frame views of the water and skyline from the new homes, with integrated skylights in the penthouses to maximise sunlight and a sense of height. Outside, we’ve also designed two landscaped bronze pavilions that provide sheltered seating for passersby. With its warm tones, sculptural design language and careful attention to scale, the scheme has created an elite new landmark on Victoria Harbour.
