This new scheme by Chancery Lane Underground Station will deliver a best-in-class workplace with a bespoke cultural venue at its heart. With an emphasis on urban greening and public amenity, our design aligns with the City of London’s ambition to become a world-leading leisure destination.
We’ve conceived the development as a 10-storey solid-masonry building divided into five distinct blocks that together read as a family. Our architectural language and material palette draw on the history of the site, once home to the Knights Templar Church in the 12th century, and the unique qualities of surrounding conservation areas. Upper levels are set back to provide planted terraces over multiple levels. The building will house 345,000ft² of flexible, high-quality office space, with retail units and affordable workspace fronting a beautifully landscaped pocket park to the south.
A new cultural venue, the Holborn Dome, will introduce space for exhibitions, workshops and performances across three floors. Expressed with a unique circular design and a double-height domed auditorium space, the venue aims to support local community programming such as public art displays.
We’ve designed the scheme to target BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and WELL Core Platinum. Its all-electric heating/cooling strategy and on-site renewable energy generation, together with its vibrant cultural offer, will make it an exciting new gateway to the City.
This is exactly the kind of scheme we want to see more of in the Square Mile – best-in-class office space that keeps London globally competitive while also delivering public spaces that everyone can enjoy.
