Make becomes a Certified B Corporation

We’re extremely proud to share that we’re now a Certified B Corporation.

From day 1, Make was set up to challenge business as usual, and we’ve remained true to that ethos throughout our 20 years. Becoming a B Corp helps us remain accountable in our design performance, sustainability practices and company footprint, both in social and environmental terms.

Transparency is an integral part of our culture as an employee-owned practice, and we see this reflected in the principles of B Corp. Going forward, we intend to continue leading by example, upholding the highest standards as individual designers and as a global company, helping our industry rise to the challenge of the climate crisis and find creative solutions to complex problems.

We’ve come a long way since 2004: we’ve opened international studios, become carbon neutral as a practice, and delivered a range of award-winning buildings designed to serve both people and planet. The B Corp certification process has helped us deepen our understanding of how and where we can do more to use our business as a force for good. As we approach our twentieth anniversary, we’re excited for the next chapter in Make’s story.

Make founder and director Ken Shuttleworth said: “Becoming a B Corp is a huge milestone for Make, demonstrating our values and tangibly measuring our impact. The certification process has been an opportunity for us to reflect on how we’ve progressed as a practice, and we’re excited to continue learning and improving.”

We achieved a score of 133.8, making us one of the top scoring architecture practices in the UK, with our highest scores in the Governance and Workers categories. See a full breakdown of our score here.
