We are committed to upholding the highest standards of environmental, social and economic sustainability in both our design work and our own practices as a business.
B Corp
Make became a Certified B Corporation in 2023. This certification helps us remain accountable in our design performance, sustainability practices and company footprint, both in social and environmental terms.
Transparency is an integral part of our culture as an employee-owned practice, and we see this reflected in the principles of B Corp. We achieved a score of 133.8, making us one of the top-scoring architecture practices in the UK with our highest scores in the Governance and Workers categories. Since our certification, we’ve introduced the Make Forum which acts as an employee representative group facilitating dialogue between management and staff on topics such as studio culture and project performance.

Employee ownership
Make has always been 100% employee-owned. When setting out to form a new practice in 2004, our founder Ken Shuttleworth imagined a workplace where everyone had a say and solutions were found together. Our structure means every employee is an owner, can influence decisions and receives an annual profit share.
Make has grown into an international practice and employee ownership is still a big part of who we are. It’s a perfect fit with our culture, which values cooperation, not competition. Ideas, not egos. We’re culturally connected to each city we work in, but our ethos flourishes in each studio, uniting us as One Make.
Fair Tax
We’ve compiled a statement of Fair Tax compliance in partnership with the Fair Tax Foundation (FTF) to certify that we meet the standards and requirements of the FTF’s Global Multinational Business Standard for the Fair Tax Mark certification for the year ending 31 December 2023.
