Make completes facade refurbishment at the iconic Lee Garden One in Hong Kong

Make has completed a full facade refurbishment and 2-storey rooftop extension for Hysan Development at the iconic Lee Garden One shopping centre in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay.

The original luxury shopping mall was built in the 1990s and continues to operate as Hysan’s flagship property, serving as a key destination for locals and tourists visiting Hong Kong. Its ongoing refurbishment over the years forms a key part of wider regeneration plans for the Lee Gardens precinct.

Make’s facade concept emphasises materiality and texture, with a neutral palette that complements individual luxury and lifestyle brand facades. Locally sourced and crafted stone cladding, copper-coloured highlights, and decorative mesh ‘lattice veils’ add visual accents across the facade, particularly at the ground level along Lan Fong Road – human-scale details that have given new life to this elevation, enhancing the pedestrian experience of a street historically viewed as a service road.

Make has continued the design language of the stone cladding through to the entrance column, with its unique diamond-shaped motif carved onto Gascogne Beige limestone. This feature acts as a major anchor to the Lee Garden One entrance, welcoming visitors into the mall.

The rooftop extension has also unlocked valuable indoor/outdoor F&B space, creating a new hospitality destination at the heart of the precinct. Michelin-starred restaurant Roganic recently made the space its new home. Make’s ‘glass box’ design opens up rooftop space previously reserved for maintenance and acts as a beacon on top of the mall, drawing natural light into the shopping floors below and increasing lettable space. A green wall and integrated lighting further create a welcoming hub that people can enjoy throughout the day and night.

The ongoing refurbishment of other Lee Garden developments will continue to reinforce the shopping centre’s status as Hong Kong’s premier destination for luxury brands.
