Connecting the City: People, Density and Infrastructure
This year’s exciting international CTBUH conference in Australia focuses on skyscrapers not as mere icons but as vital ‘connectors’ within a city. Taking place 30 October to 3 November in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the conference will look at a wide range of topics, including density vs. suburbanization, modernity vs. historical preservation, infrastructure vs. urban life, and the high- vs. low-rise realms.
Ken Shuttleworth will deliver an opening plenary presentation on 30 October on how Wynyard Place has been tailored to its location as a future-oriented connector of people and infrastructure. He will explore its function in connecting and shaping the urban transformation currently under way in Sydney. He will also address the need for collaboration and idea-sharing across the engineering, development and infrastructure industries to accelerate the transfer of knowledge and improve the built environment’s response to these global issues.
In addition, Make partner Ian Lomas will join a panel discussion later in the day to talk about what it means to be a ‘connected’ city and how it is not just a measure of physical urban infrastructure but of economic, social and digital linkages as well.
