Matthew Bugg
Architecture, 伦敦Matthew joined Make in 2007 and is developing the design for two large-scale, mixed-use office projects – one of which, St James’s Market in London’s West End, has received full planning permission. The scheme will generate the next phase of the St James’s Market public realm directly south of Piccadilly Circus. He is also working on a large commercial mixed-use scheme near the Barbican that champions a reuse-first approach with structural frame retention, heritage conservation and low-carbon performance.
In 2016 Matthew completed 5 Broadgate, a 1,130,000ft² headquarter office building for UBS located in the City of London. He was responsible for managing the architectural team involved in the design and delivery of this bespoke financial building. Matthew has contributed to a wide range of mixed-use developments, including Noho Square for Candy and Candy, a major development on the site of the former Middlesex Hospital in central London. He has also worked on several international competition schemes, including masterplan proposals for a 20,000-seat arena and entertainment complex for Jerry Bruckheimer in central Las Vegas, and the Taipei Performing Arts Centre – a state-of-the-art cultural facility in the heart of Taiwan’s capital comprising an opera house, two theatres and a public square. In addition he has overseen the development of a competition-winning mixed-use scheme where the former Bath Press building sits on the UNESCO World Heritage site. The project retained the existing historic facade in the new design.
Matthew is a keen cyclist and has organised several charity cycles and participated in the Cycle to MIPIM and the BCO Property Cycle. He also has an interest in developing technologies and their application in design.
