The London Society are continuing their run of talks on London icons with two exciting design topics: the black cab and the Routemaster bus.
Design critic Stephen Bayley will discuss how the black cab, like most institutions, is both drenched in attractive tradition and hobbled by a bone-headed refusal to innovate. Never mind Uber, 20 years ago the black cab business failed to anticipate the systematic improvements that the internet promised. Join The London Society for this talk at Make's studio on Thursday, 25 May, 6:30 - 8:30pm. Sign up here for LONDON CABS – Paint it Black.
And on Thursday, 22 June, 6:30 - 8:30pm, Jonathan Glancey will celebrate London's beloved Routemaster. Designed and made in London by Londoners for London, the Routemaster bus was a marriage of skills that served the city for half a century. It has yet to be bettered.
